Choosing the Best Learning Standard to Future-Proof Your Tech Stack
SCORM. xAPI. cmi5. So many learning standards choices, and so much dread. Which is the best for your content, and what standards should you consider when procuring new systems and platforms?
In the eLearning standards world, SCORM is king, but it’s limited in terms of what data it tracks and its flexibility operating in modern ecosystems. xAPI can track anything and works with newer technologies, like AR/VR, but without cmi5, it doesn’t include instructions for launching with an LMS and isn’t as widely adopted. cmi5 is a great meet in the middle option, but adoption rates are still low.
It’s important to understand the nuances of the standards, so you can make an informed choice when it comes to what to use for your content development and when it comes to procurement. With your input, Chris will help you decide.
